Dragbody / Contention Of The Orders

City: Orlando
Years Active: 1995 - 2002
Type Of Music: Hardcore/Metal
Myspace or Website: http://www.myspace.com/dragbody
Contention of the Orders is Dragbody before they chose the name Dragbody. Check it out, the demo rules.
From the Dragbody Myspace:
dragbody rocked it loud and crazy style from 1995 - 2002. we released three 7" records (all of which were later combined into one cd - an inheritance of detriment), one split 7" record (with burial ground), one split 12" record (with crucible), and one full length cd (flip the kill switch). obviously, there are no more dragbody shows and no more new dragbody records as we are no longer a band. however, i believe our old records are still available. please get in touch if you have trouble locating a copy of the the record you desire. please look for shows and records by scott white and mike rosen's new band, railsplitter (http://www.myspace.com/railsplitter) and tom's new band, cardinale (http://www.myspace.com/cardinale). also, pick up a copy of twilight songs by venusian skyline because scott poyer plays drums on it. thanks for reading this.

Cavity - Bacteria Sour 7 Inch and Wounded 7 Inch

City: Miami
Years Active: 1992 - 2003
Type of Music: Sludge/Experimental/Metal
Myspace or Website: http://www.myspace.com/cavitysludge
This is part 1 of a series of posts for Cavity as they released a large amount of singles and full lengths. I saw Cavity a few times and while I wasnt too into the sludge sound at the time (still not so much but I do like Cavity) they did it real well. Rene, the singer, was a maniac on stage, falling on the ground, screaming into the floor monitors...an all around showman. Dan, the bass player, did time in Powerhouse and can actually be seen on the cover of the Powerhouse 7 inch doing his thing. They played Churchills fairly often and also played the South Florida Slammie Awards in 1998 at the Squeeze. If anyone has more info they'd like to add, message me and Ill add it. Also, Id like to add that on the Wounded 7 Inch, they covered the Germs so check that out as well.

Jobbernowl

City: Miami
Years Active: 1990 - 1992
Type of Music: Melodic Punk
Myspace or Website: n/a
Until a few weeks ago, I'd never heard of Jobbernowl. My friend Ariel had their demo and their 10' on cassette and told me they should be up here. I sat down and listened and was blown away. The band reminds me alot of bands like the Descendants and All, real good melodic punk rock. Turns out that the singer, George Graquitena, is a long time supporter of the South Florida scene having started such bands as Fay Wray, Cell 63, and the Van Orsdels (his current band). The band also released a song on a comp for Dr. Strange Records as well as a 7 inch so Ill be trying to track those down. As is with the bands I was never able to see, if anyone has any information to pass along, feel free to drop me a line and Ill add it.

Vacant Andys - Spork

City: Boca Raton
Type Of Music: Aggressive Indie Rock
Years Active: 1991 - 1998 (roughly)
Myspace or Website: http://www.myspace.com/vacantandys
Adding to what I wrote back in June, the Spork tape was recorded when the band was a 5 piece. The band included all the members that would record the later 7 inches as well as Chuck Gleek. This tape was recorded in 1995 and really got them attention in South Florida. There was a big controversy that the first time Blink182 played South Florida, they played with Vacant Andys and "stole" a riff from them which they would later use. From what I remember hearing, it was from the song "Spork". If anyone has info on this, please confirm for me.
Vacant Andys will always be remembered as one of the first times that Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional) took center stage. What they should be remembered for is making great music which is what they did. All superior musicians, the band on stage was so much fun. John Owens knew how to talk to a crowd even if he was making jokes a good portion of the time. The Bonebrake brothers on bass and drums rounded out the band. Their style of melodic indie rock did have an aggressive and punk edge to it and you could usually count on a cover of Inside Out's "Burning Fight" or Quicksand "Thorn In My Side". This is yet another occasion where I truly feel they never got their due and broke up before they should have. Im hoping that someday someone will release all of their early material on one disc. Members went on Anchorman, Dashboard Confessional, Seville, The Agency, Further Seems Forever, Where Fear and Weapons Meet, and The Enablers.
