Hankshaw

City: Tampa
Years Active: 1995 - 2002 (???) They may still be active but Im not sure
Type of Music: Pop/Indie Rock
Myspace or Website: n/a

Hankshaw is a band I never got to see and it seriously bums me out. They were such a great blend of pop and indie rock that you couldnt help singing along. My friend Roy played their full length, "Nothing Personal" for me and asked if the singer was male or female. I was blown away when I found out the singer, "Harold", was a man. His voice is so high and sweet that I couldnt believe it. The first time I remember them coming down was with Overcast (???!?!?!?) and I didnt go for some reason. Again I missed them with The Get Up Kids right after Nothing Personal came out. Anyway, they were great but after Everyday I Wish You Harm, I just lost interest in their later material. But these three records are incredible and still get regular listens. As far as I know, the full length is out of print as it was originally on Network Sound and then re-released by No Idea. I checked the No Idea site and they didnt have it listed. If it is in print, someone let me know and Ill take it down.

I hope you all get this in time... Word has it that Hankshaw (minus one member, Milton) will be performing at New World Brewery on Christmas Night, Dec.25, 2008. I am going, for sure. Supposed to be mostly old Hankshaw... which is very exciting!

Hey everyone! This is Harold from Hankshaw. We will be playing New World on Christmas night. So far the set will consist of half old songs and half new songs. We will probably only have time for about 8 or 9 songs. I could talk further with the guys and see if they will want to learn more older songs for the show. Sorry about all the changes in musical style. Things got weird after "everyday I wish you harm". We put out an ep with apt 13, not sure if anyone has heard it. A full length called "King Kandy" came out in 2004 and its a 70's influenced psych/soul/rock/disco record that everyone hated.....sorry folks, I know it was disappointing.

The old songs we discussed playing at the christmas show are as follows. Those Few Minutes, Misc., Sad and Beautiful World, Angels and Frogs. We tried Reprimand and it was a mess!

As far as the music downloads go, Have fun and enjoy. I would like everyone to have it for free. I see some of the stuff available through itunes and other pay sites, but we see nothing from it and can only assume how it got there.....We didn't put it up there! Any requests for the christmas show? I'll see what I can do.

I didn't completely hate King Kandy but I swore it was a different band called Hankshaw. I guess that settles it then.

I wish I could be there for the Xmas show but what the fuck.

Hankshaw is so good.

Hey Everyone! Sorry I missed the x-mas show at The New World Brewery. Great venue! Harold, need to know if you or anyone from Lazy Susan has released the old songs? I'm looking, hell, have been looking for those songs since 1998. Yeah. I love the song about Waco, TX and David Koresh and the other branch davidians. For those of you who don't know, Lazy Susan was a band Harold and Brian were in before Hankshaw. All my best!

Hey Valrico! In response to your post about Lazy Susan songs. Brian has MP3's of the Lazy Susan stuff. I'll get him to burn it to CD for you. Are you still in Valrico? If not, send us a message through hankshaw myspace with you address and I will be sure you get it.--Harold

I thought 'King Kandy' was great, and that was after I heard the older stuff...(paid full price for it, too since i'm a fan:) - I also regularly rock a Hankshaw t-shirt that i was lucky enough to scoop up on eBay about a year ago...

amazing band, thanks for sharing it! it's so great when you discover new groups just by looking into record label releases. do you happen to have the MARCH Lp (network sound) on mp3 to share? peace.

Whoa! Harold! Who said King Kandy was disappointing??? It took a few plays to grow on me (most good music does) but I still play it regularly after 5 years. I got two co-workers who love it as much as I do. Be proud of it. The funk/soul element makes it stand out. I just think it's a shame that there may not be another album to come along like it if that's not the direction you want to pursue.

Glad to see this up here, in '93 a friend of mine in the army brought a demo tape back to Texas. Lazy Susan!!!. That became one of the best things I ever heard. The tape has long vanished. I am also glad you have cleared up the singer mystery for me. Sorry to you Harold, love your voice. Do any of you folks have a link to get those LS songs once again? Also thank you for the Hankshaw stuff, I always wondered what happened to Lazy Susan.

Hey, anyone looking for Lazy Susan stuff, here is a link to about 20+ songs....The pinwheel 7", Little Antique Store, which was on a fexi comp and a bunch of unreleased stuff we recorded on a 4 track in Brians garage + live tracks.

Hey folks, Harold here. Just wanted to let you know that Hankshaw has officially called it quits as of Dec. 2010. We were working on a new record that was near completion. Not sure if we will ever record and give away those songs, but its not out of the question.
Brian (bass) is in two other bands, Rec Center and Murder Suicide Pact. Check them if you get a chance. John (drums) Is currently teaching his little boy Liam how to follow in daddies foot steps and will one day become a drum god. I am currently in a new band called Sweet Pharaohs and we are finishing up a recording of 4 songs soon. I hope to share with you all soon.........is anybody out there?--Harold

Looking forward to hearing it!!!!

Thanks, "shitnuts". It is nice to see some signs of life from you and your co-conspirators. Looking forward to having these demos grow on me thru my car car stereo speakers. I really hope that latest Hankshaw album finds it's way to your loyal audiience soon. I'd gladly pay cash for the privilege of owning it.

Not everyone hated King Kandy! I loved it! Got it at a show of yours at New World Brewery a few years back. Actually listening to it now and thought to look up and see if you guys were still around. Introduced King Kandy to my fiance and he loves it too. We will definately be checking out Sweet Pharaohs. Glad to see you are still making music :o)
